| GUIDE FOR NEW STUDENTS

Now that you are enrolled in the Bioinformatics Master track what to do next? This section is dedicated to provide you with the answers for most practical questions that new students may have when they come to study in Leiden and/or Delft.

Arrangements for Accomodations

You have to figure out where to live before coming to the Netherlands. The master track is a two years track, so in case you have asked the University to arrange accomodation for you, previous students recommend you to ask for a six month (minimum time) contract and extend it later. Alternatives to university arrangements for accomodations are: sls wonen, Kamernet (only in dutch) and in Leiden Stitching Rooms a university organization to help foreign students to find rooms.

First time in Delft

First you have to go to the International office and they will help you with the required procedure. You can find the International Office at Jaffalaan 9a. The central bus station is next to railway station. The TU Delft Campus can be reached from Delft Station with the district lines 69, 121 or 129. The map of campus can be found here.

Walk towards the "information kiosk" on your left and go right and follow the water. After a few minutes you have a small bridge on your left, take this one and follow the road all the way until you are on a T-crossing (this is the Mekelweg). Go to the right and either go to the HB building (the very tall building).

First time in Leiden

So once you are out of train – go to the main entrance and look for the Leiden University Office to the right of the railway station entrance (if facing the station entrance). There you will be given printouts and people will help you with questions that you may have, for example how to get to international office, general information on the city, etc., see also. Some General Advise by Earlier Fellow Students

  1. Try to come early in September, as around this time International Office organizes the introduction trips.
  2. The prices of living in a room vary from 220 to 500 euro depending on the size and the distance from the city center.
  3. If you do not know how to ride a bike yet, better learn it now. It is the main means of transportation in Nehterlands.
